Jen McConnell, DNP, RN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Huron Street Wellness Center.

Jen McConnell, DNP, RN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC, provides integrative mental health care to people of all ages at Huron Street Wellness Center, in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She works with individuals of all ages to achieve mental health and wellness. Dr. McConnell welcomes all patients in the community and supports LGTBQIA+ individuals.

Dr. McConnell received her Bachelor of Arts in English and secondary education certificate in English, Speech, and Communications from Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. She then went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She worked as a bedside nurse in the Intensive Care Unit for most of her career, but also practiced in the fields of endoscopy, home care, pre-and post-op, and intermediate care units.

Dr. McConnell continued her education at Michigan State University earning her Master of Science in Nursing with a certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner and worked in a pediatric outpatient clinic. During COVID shutdown, Dr. McConnell began teaching nursing at the university level before deciding to go back to school to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Dr. McConnell earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and her psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner certification at Michigan State University. She has worked full-time as an assistant professor at the University of Detroit Mercy, School of Dentistry as well as Madonna University.  Dr. McConnell has been a clinical nursing instructor for the University of Detroit’s McAuley School of Nursing, and Madonna University.

Dr. McConnell continues to work as an adjunct professor for Madonna University while also volunteering for her children’s athletic activities. She enjoys spending time with family (including her two cats and guinea pig), spinning, and binge-watching forensic shows.

Dr. McConnell stays active as a member of professional organizations, including: American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA), Michigan Council of Nurse Practitioners (MICNP), American Nurses Association (ANA), and the Michigan Nurses Association (MNA).

Dr. McConnell is welcoming new patients and will continue to work with them to find mental health and wellness.
